For the first time in nine years, the rhythmic beat of drums once again echoed through the streets of Mamburao as the Arawatan Street Dancing Competition made its much anticipated return. Last seen in 2015, the event was revived as one of the major highlights of the 75th Founding Anniversary of Occidental Mindoro, bringing renewed energy, color, and cultural pride to the province’s grand celebration.

This year’s competition was participated in by contingents from Abra de Ilog, Paluan, Mamburao, Santa Cruz, Sablayan, and Calintaan. Each participating municipality showcased not only the rich Mindoro heritage but also the unique stories, traditions, and artistic expressions of their own local cultures that have collectively shaped the diverse cultural identity of Occidental Mindoro.

The Arawatan Street Dancing Competition once again proved its significance as a platform for local artistry. Through masterful choreography, intricate costumes, and the powerful symphony of drums and chants, performers highlighted the creativity and exceptional talent of Mindoreños. The performances embodied the spirit of Arawatan, which means unity and cooperation, as dancers came together to deliver a show filled with passion, meaning, and cultural pride.

During the awarding ceremony, Sablayan emerged as the Champion, with Mamburao securing Second Place and Santa Cruz taking Third Place. The outstanding performances and overwhelming community support reinforced the value of reviving the competition.

Recognizing its positive impact, the Provincial Government expressed its intention to continue the Arawatan Street Dancing Competition in future celebrations. This year’s remarkable comeback has reignited not only cultural appreciation but also stronger collaboration among communities, which is truly reflective of what Arawatan stands for.
